Hello, friends, and happy 2026. I hope it's going well for you so far. The end of one year and the beginning of another always makes me take a few moments to look at the past, realize how much time has gone by, and remember the events that have shaped my life, both big and small, good and bad and in between. For instance, in 2007 things were pretty different for me. I had not yet seen the Mountain Goats live, my grocery store of choice was A&P, and I liked wearing striped polo shirts a lot, for some reason. I was playing the clarinet every day, the drums every once in a while, and the piano basically every moment in between. I also played some guitar, though rather poorly and on a poor guitar with the wrong strings (and only five of them at that). But when inspiration struck, I wrote a song and, however unlikely, it's stood the test of time. Unlike the striped polo shirts.
Today I'm proud to release the all newly recorded version of "Touch an Ocelot" to celebrate its 19th anniversary. (You know, like you do.) I hope you will appreciate the upgrades in the quality of the guitar as well as the recording equipment being used, though diehard fans will be able to spot one holdover from the old version too. You can listen to the song and read more about this special moment on my Bandcamp page.
