A new path ahead

Well hello! It's been a while. There has been a lot (a LOT) of change for me in the last few months. The last time I wrote I was getting ready to put on Games 2.0 in the backyard. Unfortunately I got pneumonia and was out of commission for a good long while there and it never happened. Fast forward to the present and I don't even live there anymore! Some of you might know that the last few months have been extremely challenging for me, disorienting, and characterized by all sorts of big swerves in the road. As usual, music (and being creative in general) has been a place of solace and a path to joy throughout all of it, so I knew I had to plan a show once I got settled into my new place. So here's the info!

Sunday April 6, 2pm PT (5pm ET)

Live on Zoom

It's been about a year since acquiring my Yamaha digital piano and I swear I play it just about every day. It's so good. So this show will feature me on the piano and vocals, doing various songs from the songbook, but especially those about weathering difficult times and songs about joy, even if it's tinged with sadness. Maybe you're going through something like that right now as well. If you know anything about the Mountain Goats' music, you'll know this is right up their alley, so expect plenty of TMG and maybe a few others.

What's more is that this will be the first show of a recurring monthly series I am launching, live from my living room to yours (or to your phone at the grocery store or maybe during a slow period at work or while you fold laundry or wherever you might be). Sometimes it will be like this first show, with piano and vocals, sometimes I will use other instruments, sometimes other styles like jazz, classical, avant-garde improvisation, etc. Sometimes I will take suggestions from the audience or incorporate other ways for you to participate. I am considering changing the day of the week and time from month to month in order to make sure people who work a certain schedule are not left out. If you'd like to register an opinion on the show schedule, get in touch! I'd love to have you there.

There's lots more to say, but for now I'm going to focus my energy on preparing for this show (and possibly getting a new mixer beforehand??). The Zoom link will be sent out the morning of the show via the email list, so if you're not on there already, be sure to join the list by entering your info at the bottom of this page. Hope to see you there!
